The Monthly Note
September 2012
Thank you for this past summer
«and they suspected nothing till the Flood came» (Mt 24, 39)
by Jacques Lauzier, OP
Lord, You who makes the rain fall on the righteous and the sinners,
We thank You for the one you have sent us during this summer.
It has watered the fields and made our gardens grow.
It is true that it kept us from enjoying the sun,
But it probably protected us from skin cancer.
Lord, thank You also for family moments.
It helped us solidify old bonds as well as creating new ones.
Thanks for the trips that we went on.
They showed us new landscapes,
But also new faces
To remind us that we have brothers and sisters
And that you are also their Lord.
Thanks for the new dishes that we have tasted.
Our eyes were opened to the abundance of your Providence
That takes care of the birds, which neither sow, nor harvests
And yet find enough food.
Thanks for the clothes that we were able to buy
In order to clothe the bodies that you have created.
It made us realize that you not only take care of the wild flowers,
But also of your children.
Thanks for the good wine that we drank while eating among friends,
And for the evenings spent after the sun had set.
These moments reminded us that you loved to withdraw with your apostles
So that they could relax, side by side, with you.
Finally, Lord, forgive us for all those times when we could not discern your presence in all those moments of happiness and to show our gratitude.
Forgive us for those times when we have denied you in refusing to recognize You in people we have met.
Please forgive us for having forgotten that we are a big family and that You are our Father, the one who has created us.
Again, thank You, Lord, for this past summer. You have really spoiled us.
