The Monthly Note
June 2013
by Marcel Dumont, OP
Dear faithfuls of the Great Apostle Jude,
The month of May has just left us by rewarding us with the Solemnity of Pentecost. Fifty days after the Passover of the Lord, we receive the fire of the Spirit so that we may continue the great mission of the Church. Henceforth, like them, we are no longer afraid. Henceforth, we can leave our insecurities that often prevents us from speaking about the Risen Jesus, so that we may convey the One that we love and that we hold in our heart. Our beloved Pope Francis 1st, in his Pentecost homily tells us: “In the light of this passage from Acts, [on the event of the gift of the Spirit] I would like to reflect on three words linked to the working of the Holy Spirit: newness, harmony and mission.” Newness: are we ready to let us be bothered by the Spirit, so that He may refresh us, inside out. Harmony: in the diversity of all that we are, only the Spirit has the ability to harmonize the differences to make one. As for the mission: “it is the Paraclete Spirit, the “Comforter”, who grants us the courage to take to the streets of the world, bringing the Gospel!”
Driven by the Spirit, thus by force, by unity and by creativity, we let us be driven, in this month of June, towards the great liturgical feasts that, each year, follow the Solemnity of Pentecost: the Sunday of Holy Trinity, the one of Corpus Christi and the Friday of the feast of the Sacred Heart. What a joy and what a happiness that we will once again be showered by all these highlights in the Church. Sure, the Holy Spirit will continue to blow. He will make us enter more in the knowledge of the Trinitarian Love, Him, the Spirit of communion, who is the very Love of the Father and of the Son. He will also make our love grow towards the Eucharistic Bread. How can we love the Eucharistic Jesus without the presence of the Spirit in each of our communions of His Body and His Blood! And finally, how can we discover the Sacred Heart that has loved us so much without the Spirit that stirs this same heart by the Love of the Father.
Let us beseechSaint-Jude, in this month of the Eucharistic Heart, month of the Father that gives out, by His Son’s Heart, the fire of His Love, to encounter the Friendship of the Holy Trinity in each of our communions at the Bread of Life!
