Saint Jude

Daily prayer
to St. Jude

O kindSaint-Jude, our faithful intercessor to Jesus, receive the following special intentions : to present them to the Almighty Lord, Root of all good. Above all, grant us an increase of our faith in His love. May each day find us closer in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. KindSaint-Jude, you who has revived hope in our hearts, you whose model merits and life bring us the divine blessings and graces, be our advocate, and lead us to Jesus and Mary. With you, blessed apostle, we give thanks and praise God with all our heart for His innumerable kindnesses. Amen.

The Monthly Note

September 2016

We have just experienced the Rio Olympics. Few know that a French Dominican contributed to the rebuilding of the modern Olympic Games. Father Henri Didon (1840-1900) was a sportsman; great promoter of sport and its virtues, he organized sports games in the college where he taught.
In 1891, Pierre de Coubertin met Henri Didon asking for his support for the organization of games involving religious institutions and secular institutions. For this occasion Didon invented the motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius", "Faster, higher, stronger", which will become that of the Olympic Games at the Olympic Congress in 1894.

In August 2016, we enjoyed the performance of athletes and we were proud to see them on the podium, receiving their medals. All athletes demonstrate determination, perseverance, discipline and a sense of organization, all qualities necessary to the winners. But among them, some go further and are guided by God, showing a force not just theirs, but an Other.

Praying with her rosary, the American gymnast keeps time to go to Mass, even during competition. It is no exception, others let God https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8mL0_Ke9tk0/maxresdefault.jpgprint their lives. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the huge star of world athletics, was born into a Catholic family; he carries with him the miraculous medal of St. Catherine Labouré. The Canadian Andre Degrass has the cross of Christ to his neck. American swimmers Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky are also known for their deep faith, and for building their sense of effort during their studies in Catholic institutions.

The 2012 Olympics were particularly testing for Jennifer Nichols, the American archer. Loss of confidence and profound doubts in her faith. "In all of this the Lord has been just and so faithful. My goal is to glorify God. Sure, I'd love to win an Olympic medal. But ultimately I want to go where the Lord will lead me to glory."

For ourselves, if our life is difficult with a lot of trials, we can all turn to St. Jude, our Intercessor with God. Each "Thursday to St. Jude" at the 2:30 pm Mass, the Dominican Friars of Montreal and "The Friends of St. Jude" are united in prayer with you, at home. Together, we invoke St. Jude to intercede for you, dear brothers and sisters, for all the prayer intentions you sent us by mail, email, or put near the statue of Patron Saint of Hopeless cases. Remain united in prayer; confidence, there is Hope!
