The Monthly Note
January 2017
In the French Canadian and Italian traditions, we can offer our wishes for the New Year until the end of January. My vows are in the Bible, in the Book of Numbers (6: 22-27); They are read at the mass of January 1rst :
'' May the Lord bless you and keep you !
May the Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you !
May the Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace ! ''
Writing these few lines, Madame Yvonne has just passed away. She was a Friend of St. Jude of Haitian origin whom I met at the Thursday afternoon mass. I met her also at morning mass, when I am celebrating at the neighboring parish. At the beginning of December, before the Thursday to St. Jude's mass, some ladies announced to me her sudden death. It was a shock, for she came regularly; she prayed sincerely for your intentions, which we receive by mail, by e-mail or deposited in front of the statue of the Saint of Hope. She was a Friend of St. Jude whose discreet and fraternal presence we already miss.
Many times, you and I have lost some meaningful people among our relatives and friends or in our Christian community. Their testimonies of life and faith inspires us long after their entry into eternal life with God. Their faces now shine with God's Love and Light for them. This certainty, which comes from our faith in the Risen Christ, is for us a source of peace and comfort. It is also a desire to inspire us with their lives, their testimonies and their faith to go in the same direction, living the love of God and our neighbor, until the day they will welcome us to God, at home.
As we continue our pilgrimage on earth, we are assured of their prayers in our favor in heaven; they are in the company of St. Jude and all the saints, of Our Lady and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Praying for someone, be them for us or us for them, is a real form of Christian love.
Rest assured that you can count on the prayers of the Friends of St. Jude. Every Thursday afternoon, together at Mass, we pray for you and your intentions, all the intentions received during the week. Happy New Year ! Be confident, there's hope!
