The Monthly Note
June 2018
Christ is Risen, Alleluia! Let's prepare ourselves for the gift of the Holy Spirit!
"Risking the mission. Risking for the mission." It is the theme of the Dominicans’ Provincial Chapter that is currently taking place. Every four years, delegates from the Canadian Province of St. Dominic (which also includes Japan, Rwanda and Burundi) meet to discuss and decide on the directions to live and to be put in place. This year, 14 brothers from Canada, 3 from Japan and 4 from Rwanda and Burundi have already read the reports prepared by the houses of Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Tôkyô, Kigali, Nyagatare and Bujumbura, as well as various Commissions on Mission, Vocations, Finances and our Settlements.
In 1216, St. Dominic founded the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans), to proclaim Jesus Christ and his Message of salvation for all humans, especially those who are far from Him. In the Canadian Church, as you already know, we are in a time of re-evangelization. It is a question, for the Dominicans, of helping to enlighten the Christian faith of our Catholic brothers and sisters, while going towards those who live in other universes: atheism, other religions, Internet, young adults, social justice, universities, immigrants, and even indifference. That is why we must train the new brothers who join us and also continue the training of those who are already in active ministry, as well as our elders, to fully understand the challenges of the years 2018-2022.
I invite you to pray for us, your Dominican brothers, and for those who must make the appropriate decisions, perhaps with this prayer:
"God who leads and protects your Church, give to the Dominicans gathered in the Provincial Chapter, the Spirit who makes the Light, who shows the Truth and who builds Peace. May they endeavor to discern Your wills, and employ all their strength to accomplish them. We ask it through Jesus Christ, our Lord."
Dear Friend of St. Jude, the Dominicans and the
Praying Team of St. Jude continue to pray for you, your prayer intentions and your families. We do it fraternally at the 2:30 Mass, every
Thursday of St. Jude. Be confident, there is hope!
